Patson is a Partner at Signum Advocates and the head of Arbitration Practice. He is UK and Ugandan trained lawyer with over 17 years’ experience. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, UK (FCIArb) and a Court Member of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC)’s International Court of Arbitration and an ex officio member of the ICC’s Commission on Arbitration and ADR.
He has acted for and represented financiers, developers, project sponsors and EPC contractors before all Courts of judicature and several arbitral Tribunals in commercial and investment disputes across a broad range of industries including banking and finance, healthcare, extractive industry, renewable energy, construction, manufacturing, and transport and logistics. Patson has acted as arbitration counsel and sometimes as an arbitrator in arbitral proceedings under various Institutional rules including International Centre for Dispute Resolution- Canada (ICDR), London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), Tanzania International Arbitration Centre (TIAC), Centre for Arbitration and Dispute Resolution (CADER), Kampala, International Centre for Arbitration and Mediation Kampala, UNCITRAL, Adhoc arbitration under Zambia’s Arbitration Act and other arbitration Rules. He enjoys finding commercial and practical solutions to complex disputes. In 2022, he was selected among the top 30 Rising Arbitration Practitioners in Africa by the Africa Arbitration Academy and Association of Young African Arbitrators.
In 2015, Patson was seconded to the global law firm of Mayer Brown International LLP in its London office and Blackstone Chambers in London as part of the prestigious International Lawyers for Africa (ILFA) Programme with a special emphasis to the African Market. He worked under notable solicitors and barristers in both non-contentious and contentious briefs especially in international arbitration and construction disputes space.
In June 2022, Patson was part of the Africa Arbitration Academy Flagship Training Programe cohorts held in London and hosted by leading international arbitration law firms and taught by leading international arbitration experts, heads of arbitral institutions and judges. The Academy provides specialized training to arbitration practitioners and arbitrators across the African continent.
He is an Professional Advisor adjunct at Law Development Centre (Bar Course), where he heads the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) subject.
Patson holds an LLM (with Dist.) from Aberdeen, Special Diploma in Trial Advocacy and an International Diploma in International Arbitration.
